Day four started off with the usual donut from Dunwell's. This time I got a cinnamon sugar donut. Seriously cannot get enough of these donuts. On the outside I'm an asian girl but I'm a big, fat ass cop on the inside. FEED ME DONUTS
We jumped on the subway and took the train to Chelsea, and we went to walk around the markets.Chelsea market is a fancy ass, tourist-filled food market... which means lots of seafood, overpriced foods, and artesianal cheeses.
I really like oysters so I tried a few at the seafood market. They were hella expensive though so it was only a few. The kumamato oysters were really good (the one on in the middle). Cupcake oysters were alright. Chae got a lobster roll and I tried some of the lobster bisque. Pree goooood.
Next we went walking around in the artsy part of the market. The shit there was way too expensive for my liking. But I did get something. I got a pack of Rad Dudes trading cards, which I remember having as a kid. Apparently no one makes them anymore so I snatched a pack up just for old times sake. I feel so old.
Because I'm obsessed with cheese, I went to check out Lucy's whey. The girl working there guilt tripped me to buy a $8 block of cheese which turned out to be a tiny block. But its amazing cheese so I guess it was worth it (Trying to reason myself out of spending so much on a piece of fermented milk)
After the market, and lots of gawking at expensive food, we went to the High Line to walk around and take photos. The High Line is an abandoned train track which they built over/around. Now its just a very nice park that extends from the Chelsea district to the Meatpacking district. So we walked through it and enjoyed the views. #WalkingAwayTheFoodBabies
I laughed so hard at this. When we were sitting on the steps looking out the glass onto the street, a car pulled over on the street and a bunch of black guys stepped out. They literally just parked their car, walked out and started eating pizza in the middle of the street. Only in New York. Black guys and pizza hahaha iconic.
I tried acting like a homeless person on the chair but it didnt really work. I guess its a good thing I dont look like a homeless person tho
The abandoned train tracks amidst wild overgrown foliage.
We walked all the way through the High Line and into the city again. On the way to the Public Library we passed the Post office.
Also on the way I bought a lamb gyro from one of the stalls on the street. IT WAS LIKE HEAVEN IN MY MOUTH
Then we went to check out Grand Central Station. The ceiling was beautiful but it doesnt really show on camera. It felt like an airport cause it was so busy. Everyone was just doing their own thing, scurrying around everywhere.
Then we went to check out the Public Library, which was smaller than I thought it would be.
I don't know if this is the one that they always use in libraries but after seeing it in real life, I would say it probably isn't this one.
After the public library, we met up with Robyn for dinner. We met up at Times Square at Lids, and then we walked to the Brooklyn diners hoping to have dinner there. But the lines were so f'king long (we should've expected it since it was Times Square), we ended up going to another place a few streets down. We went to Iroha nearer to Rockefeller Centre, and waited for a good hour for seats. This table of three Japanese people finished an hour before and just sat there talking. 10 people were waiting for their table and they just sat and talked. We death stared them for so long. Even after we finished eating, they were STILL there.
I love salmon.
I wanted to visit the Big Gay Icecream Shop at East Village because I heard its great, so we took the train to East Village to check it out. But as always my bad luck kicked in and we found out that they were closed till the 6th Jan. To make up for this, I bought icecream at another store a few streets down. It was really good icecream. Who needs big gay fabulous icecream when you can have regular icecream?
I'd throw my pie for you,
Emma
