Suicide prevention conference

The Suicide Prevention Conference happened yesterday.
Send Silence Packing was an event where 1100 backpacks (that were donated by people who were affected by suicide, maybe a family member/friend) were placed on the lawn to represent the 1100 students who die from suicide each year in the US.
I really appreciated the time and effort that everyone seemed to put into events like this even though my college is relatively small.
I can only imagine how much effort groups at big uni's like Berkeley give to good causes like this.
Not to undermine our own efforts, of course. Everyone was bloody awesome (y)
Anyway, so I was outside for most of the day handing out flyers and just explaining the cause of the backpacks.... And it was really emotional and intense because there would be people who were obviously affected by the message behind them and some of them just stood there crying.
Or some of them would be too emotional to even stop and look at the backpacks.
Each of them had their own stories and I guess thats whats so morbid about them.
Mental health is fucking important and I really wish it would be less of a stigma.
