If Americans were a sock, it would be the warm and fuzzy kind

The transport here is so confusing... Barts, munis, samtrans, buses... I still don't really know which one is which yet but I'll get there eventually. We went touring around SF today
The weird thing about barts is that when you buy a ticket, you have to pay the exact amount, say you enter $10, and then you subtract 5 cents until it goes to the value of your destination. And it doesn't say which stop you're going to on the ticket which is strange too. This lady we met at the bus stop (I love talking to strangers) told us that you could cheat the system and just show the purple ticket on buses and get away with not paying (Not sure if #legit)
To explain this post's title- Americans are really, really, really, friendly. Like if you thought Australians were friendly, you haven't met Americans.
We wanted to go to the Golden Gate Bridge today so we asked for directions at this restaurant, and the guy took out his iphone to search the place for us and nearly wrote down all the directions for us. Then we didn't know where the bus stop was so we asked a stranger walking past and she WALKED us to the station. Then we decided to ask the Bart people (because it might be easier to go via Bart) and they wrote down more instructions for us. Then we got on the bus and asked the bus driver whether it was going to stop at a certain point, and she told us it wouldn't, and gave us new instructions. A lady who was just getting on the bus overheard and gave us more, then she left. Then another man on the bus gave us more instructions. Then later at night at a different place, I was by myself and had to buy something so I asked this girl at Trader Joes whether she stocked the thing I needed, and she said she didn't but whipped out her phone and showed me google maps to make sure I didn't get lost. And the thing is, all of them did it with a smile and I never felt like I was bothering any of them or being a hassle.

AMERICAN STRANGERS ARE AMAZING.

Awww I so remember these barts/munis/samtrans/buses...there were so cool and the feeling of going down the hill while looking out the windows and seeing all those stairs-like apartments is incomparable :)

Yeah! totally did not understand the transport system!

But those trams thingos with the purple ticket, pretty sure you pay like $1/$2 or something, and then they rip it off at the time its valid until so you can hope on/off any trams for the next 3 hrs. so in that purple one, you could've got on and off any til 5:00pm i think! pretty cool how they rip it i reckno
